Exhibition Management Services (Pty) Ltd (EMS) is a privately owned, limited liability company first registered in 1981 - registration no. 1981/09850/07. It has both South African and UK shareholders.
As the name implies, its business lies in the organisation of exhibitions. In the main as a principal, but also in joint ventures and on behalf of third parties such as foreign governments.
EMS was established by the current managing director, John Thomson, a founder member of the Exhibition Association of South Africa and a person who has held managerial positions in the South African exhibition industry since 1975.
Apart from playing a leading role in the industry for many years, EMS is the only "independent" of note and the only company, of any size, to operate a total pan African service.
This pan African service was started in 1987 and events to date have been established in: Botswana, Cote d'Ivoire, Ghana, Kenya, Mozambique, Nigeria, Tanzania, Zambia, South Africa, Angola and Zimbabwe. EMS works in close conjunction with African government ministries (particularly the South African Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Trade and Industry), provincial and federal governments, parastatals, trade associations, institutes and professional bodies.
By way of example, Minecon Africa, the biennial exhibition for the construction and surface mining industries, enjoys the endorsement of the Ministry of Public Works, the Development Bank of South Africa, the Greater Johannesburg Metropolitan Council, the Provincial Government and sixteen different industry related organisations.
Other exhibitions have been staged for (again by way of example): the Government of Thailand, China Council for the International Promotion of Trade (CCPIT) and Trade Partners UK, to mention just three.
Based in Sandton, Johannesburg, EMS, whilst specialising in Africa, has nevertheless the capability of operating globally should such demand arise. Projects currently under consideration include events in London and Budapest, whilst previous operations include a South African mining equipment exhibition in Shanghai, China.
Political, financial and work references can be furnished as required.
