Expo English contest starts
03 October 2007
The fourth annual Expo English contest was launched in Shanghai yesterday, unveiling a new round of English and Expo knowledge competition among middle school students. This year's contest added a new group competition for schools, requiring students of a school to shoot a video under the title of "In the days greeting Shanghai Expo" to describe their feelings and experiences participating or preparing for the Expo. The contest is hosted by Wenhui Xinmin United Press Group, co-sponsored by the Bureau of Shanghai World Expo Coordination, Shanghai Education Commission and The Shanghai Committee of the Chinese Youth League. The contest, having attracted more than 100,000 students to participate in the past three years, will still have speech and debate competitions as usual. Shanghai Expo is expected to attract 70 million visitors, in which 3.5 million will come from overseas, so English knowledge is very important, said Huang Yaocheng, deputy director of the Bureau of Shanghai World Expo Coordination. The organisers hoped that students could know more about World Expo as well as improving their English usage and communication skills. Exhibition details on www.Expo2010China.com, www.expotop.com.
