Furniture exporters pin high hopes on HCMC Expo

10 October 2007
Furniture producers and exporters expect to cash in on the HCMC International Furniture and Handicrafts Fair and Exhibition that opens in Tan Binh District today.

The five-day event, also known as HCMC Expo 2007, at the HCMC International Exhibition and Convention Center is being attended by 320 companies with 720 booths, representing about 65% of the numbers registered in the first place.

Tran Duc Hanh, head of the trade promotion division of the HCMC Department of Trade, the organizer of the event, said some leading companies registered for 6 to 12 booths but were later asked to reduce them by half to make room for others.

“This year’s expo will be more active than before since Vietnamese-made wood furniture has become world-known and Vietnam is now a member of the World Trade Organization,” said Park Jin Woo, general director of South Korean-invested My Gia Deco in the southern province of Binh Duong.
