Sixth annual presentation of DDW
22 October 2007
From October 20 through October 28, 2007, Eindhoven will be the inspiring platform for the sixth large-scale annual Dutch Design Week. The theme of Dutch Design Week 2007 will be ’Design Works’. During this nine-day event, the public can visit exhibitions, attend lectures and become acquainted with the latest products and developments in the field of design. Both established designers and newcomers use the Dutch Design Week to show their work and introduce their ideas to the public. Through exhibitions, company visits, symposiums, and workshops the different facets of contemporary Dutch design will be revealed: from process to product, from industrial design to applied art. Among this year’s highlights are the Graduation Galleries with graduation projects from the Design Academy Eindhoven, the contribution of TU Eindhoven Industrial Design, the exhibition and prize-giving ceremony of the Dutch Design Awards, and the presentations in the Dutch Livingroom at Strijp S by a range of leading design bureaus. Since the inception of Dutch Design Week in 2002, the number of participants has increased from twenty to one hundred. Dutch Design Week aims to show the latest developments in the field of design in a stimulating and inspiring way by means of a dynamic and diverse selection of events, exhibitions and lectures. In addition, workshops and symposiums are organized for professional audiences. The Graduation Galleries organized by the Design Academy Eindhoven are widely acclaimed. During this exhibition, graduate students present and explain their graduation projects to the visitors in person. The exhibition is on view in the Witte Dame, in the centre of Eindhoven. There are also numerous other museums, galleries and cultural institutes that present art and design exhibitions and organize lectures. This year’s theme is ’Design Works’. The creative industry is getting more and more important. It is DDW’s ambition to join this national development and to draw up a programme in which optimum attention is paid to the impact of creativity on society.
